I have been living and studying in Swansea since September 2003, and during that time my process of making art has changed and evolved greatly.

When I came to Swansea, I saw myself as a painter, but quickly found myself working much more conceptually, with documentation and installation projects. Much of my work involves collecting and gathering evidence of the things around me. Also my projects tend to become heavily involved in interaction with the public and public spaces, for example ‘My elastic band collection’ (2004), my ‘you are special’ project (2004/05) and my ‘Collection of receipts’ (2005).

Other works include my ‘Flat pack light boxes, like the ones you get in IKEA’ (2004/05), which were recently exhibited in the Victoria Baths in Manchester, in March 2005.

During the first year of my fine art degree at Swansea Institute of Higher Education, I co-founded an Institute based arts group called ‘The Arts Circle Swansea Institute’ (T.A.C.S.I.). We began by making a 16 page photocopied A5 newspaper, and have now evolved to a 30 page glossy A5 magazine.

T.A.C.S.I. also organises and puts on arts and music events in and around Swansea. Events have been held in the Townhill campus bar, the Monkey bar in Swansea, Exposure gallery, Swansea town centre and Verdi’s restaurant in Mumbles.

I have been a volunteer in Exposure since autumn 2004, and in January ’05, co-curated Swansea’s first open ‘Video Arts Event’.

If you wish to contact me, you can do so via the Exposure web-site, or on my personal e-mail, tomosullivan@hotmail.co.uk
