I came to Swansea in 1987 to complete my four year study
of Technical Illustration and Graphic Design, a process that virtually extinguished
what had been a lifelong interest in visual arts.
After years of work, study, meditation and incessant tinkering I have recently decided to refocus my attention on the visual field and put into practice all I have learnt over the last few years.
Fuelled by my fascination with time, my current work is based largely on my ability to manipulate time as though it were a material substance. My TimeStream technique allows the display of motion-paths of objects as they move across the field of view.
I have also developed a more exotic technique called TimeShear which allows the twisting and sculpting of time as though it were a malleable material. This was used to best effect in my short film ‘Flatland’ which I produced earlier this year.
Following my acquisition of Arts Council Funding this Autumn I will be working on a project called ‘Wingbeats’ which will combine my time-bending video techniques with my interest in experimental music. For this project, the musical score will be derived from the aerial movement of birds. Even though I will be writing the software for this myself, the rest of the compositional process will effectively be handed back to nature.
For more information on my visual works, please take a look at www.timestream-arts.com.
I can be contacted directly on thomas@timestream-arts.com if you want to ask about prints, commissions, or just say ‘hello’.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, there are an almost infinite number of other things you could’ve been doing instead.
Thomas
